What is CarTalkin’, why its here, and who I am!

What is Car Talkin’?

CarTalkin’ is a place to go for simple straight information about the purchase or lease of a new or used vehicle...you know, cars, trucks, vans, minivans or any combination thereof that we all either want or absolutely MUST HAVE regardless of what the attempt does to our sanity and that of our loved ones. You know what I’m talkin’ about, right? NOBODY, I mean NOBODY wants to have anything to do with walking into the average run-of-the-mill new car dealership and actually having to talk to one of THOSE people that will never give you a simple answer to an easy question like, "Do you have this in red?" I know, that was probably an oversimplification but you know what I mean. It’s really strange, but if you have ever been on the showroom of a dealership on a Saturday afternoon just to look around and observe (something sane people don’t do) you’d probably just start to laugh at some of the things you see. Like a serious case of nerves and perspiration. All right, okay, you win, I give up, YOU don’t get nervous... OR perspire when you negotiate your car deal... you just HATE IT more than a root canal because it’s so frustrating, right? Well, that is exactly...

Why CarTalkin’ is here.

CarTalkin’ is here to help make it easier to get your next vehicle. With a minimum of effort and expense on your part. Buying a new or used car is not rocket science, it really isn’t hard, no matter what everybody keeps trying to tell you. You don’t have to buy a bunch of books, spend hours and days doing research in the library, in the bookstore or on the internet. You don’t have to spend your money on the internet or with a "broker." It doesn’t require you to do much at all except STOP, BREATH, and THINK just like they are always saying the kiddy program our little boy is always watching, and the keyword here is THINK! What do all those books you see in the bookstore (and there must be at least a zillion) and websites on the internet that want you to pay upfront for a name to talk to have one thing in common...MONEY...YOURS...before you ever get anything! Your money is the common denominator in everything you see. How to get it is the purpose for their work. When it all boils down, the people that write those books make THEIR money when YOU buy the book! The people on the internet with those wonderful flashing and blinking links that magically draw your mouse when you see them flashing on your monitor make their money when you click and request a quote because they charge the dealer for the "lead" which is what you are. The point here, if you don’t mind me getting a little simple is, there is a LOT of money being spent everywhere just to get as much of yours as possible and if you think all of these people and places aren’t trying to get as much as they can you didn’t pay attention and STOP, BREATH and THINK when I mentioned it. If you have gotten this far you are probably wondering what makes me think I’m an expert in negotiating car deals. Well I might not be THE EXPERT, but I’ll tell you...

What makes me the expert!

Time! Its as simple as that. Time and of course...training. Over 21 years of time. You see, for the last 21 years I have been a student of the retail automobile business. Yes, the "Car Biz." I say that I am a student because a student is still in the learning phase of their evolution. I’m sure you have heard the old saying, "When you’re green you grow and when you’re ripe you rot." So, with this thought in mind, for all these years I have always attempted to learn more or a new or better way. In knowledge there IS power! It is not just people shopping for a car that read those "how to buy a car" books and surf the web. Automotive Professionals DO IT TOO! Okay, so now you know, unless you have recently relocated from another planet, I AM A CAR SALESMAN. You know, one of those people that everyone loves to hate! That...is exactly what makes me an expert, maybe THE EXPERT on how to not only buy a car, but to actually make it easy to and almost fun but let’s not get carried away here. In late 1978 I answered one of those advertisements you have seen in the classified section of the newspaper if you have ever started at the A’s. "Salespeople wanted - no experience necessary, will train during extensive 30 day training period." That was the start of what has been a VERY interesting education.

The "Car Biz" is a true "start at the bottom and work your way up" business and that is how I started. As a salesman. Since then I have held every position on the sales force: salesperson, assistant sales manager the closer), finance manager, both new and used car manager, fleet manager, and general sales manager. All sales department positions, if the dealership is properly run, are selling positions and almost every job above salesperson is a teaching position where you spend a considerable amount of time teaching inexperienced car people how to negotiate the deal. Since over fifteen of the last twenty years have been spent in senior management positions (new car manager, used car manager, fleet manager and general sales manager), I think I have the seniority to be called an expert. Especially since, unlike most experts, I still do it every single day and have been primarily responsible for almost 2100 car deals over the last 6 years, and now average 30 deals per month. I have what you might what you might call considerable experience in the negotiation of a car deal.

Who is CarTalkin’ here for (maybe you, maybe not!)
